Making the decision to fight against Shishio, Kenshin leaves Kamiya Dojo and sets off for Kyoto via the Tokaido (East Sea Road) by himself - he doesn't want to involve anybody else. Everyone else is left behind in Tokyo at the dojo as Kaoru wallows in sadness after Kenshin's farewell. Meanwhile, Sanosuke and Yahiko attempt to go to Kyoto to follow Kenshin, where they're stopped by Hajime who stands in their way and proclaims, "Don't ruin this by following."
